What VCs Look For In A Fundable Entrepreneur

Here is an excerpt from an article I published on LinkedIn:

Here are some other adjectives and phrases I’ve heard used by investors when describing entrepreneurs they have funded or are working to fund:

  • “scrappy” – determined, not particularly put together by yuppie standards, tenacious and energetic

  • “hungry” – having a strong desire or craving for success and money

  • “coachable” – willingness to be corrected and to act on that correction, easy to work with

  • “upstanding” – respectable, honest character

  • “proven” – demonstrated track record, passed the due diligence

  • “vastly connected” - has a working rolodex of customers they sold to before, partners they worked with before and top talent they hired before

  • “not arrogant, but has just enough arrogance” – not a “yes” person and knows when to push back and stand his/her ground

  • “if anyone can succeed in this market, it’s this team” – this management team has domain expertise, working rolodex and the know-how beyond any other

  • “reminds me of myself when I was an entrepreneur” – someone just like me is fundable

  • “she’s got chutz·pah” – shameless audacity, guts, confidence and boldness

  • “he’s a magnet for A-players and partners” – compelling charisma that can recruit and inspire top talent and marquee partners
